INSTRUCTORS

Podium of Life will be working with Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Club and Whistler Mountain Ski Club to provide coaching for the program. Coaches vary in expertise from racing, to park, to all-mountain.

Instructor/Coach Shane Harle, BEd, M.Ed                                      

Shane, a master teacher and coach, inspires and motivates student/athletes.  His teaching experience expands most subject areas with his main focus on Gifted and Talented, art and P.E.

Shane has his level one freestyle coaching certification to compliment vast experience in coaching a number of different sports.

Shane has a proven record of running successful programs.  As president of the Strathcona Triathlon Club he grew the membership to 100, and coached over 100 kids in the Young Guns Basketball program.

Shane has a strong understanding of mental and athletic training as he completed two Ironman races and competed at the Triathlon World championships in Cancun Mexico.  He recently completed his second marathon.

Corey Harle

Corey Harle comes to the POL team with a wealth of knowledge in sport, coaching, physical education, training and injury management.

She has first-hand experience with successfully combining education and sport. As a young ski racer with the Ontario Ski Team, she raced nationally and internationally while completing distance education. She went on to earn degrees in Physical and Health Education and Physiotherapy at top universities in Canada.

Besides skiing, Corey has participated in many sports including representing Canada at two World Triathlon Championships and the World Championships in Outrigger Canoe.

Corey holds a level two certification with the Canadian Ski Instructor’s Alliance and the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation. She also has 15 years of experience coaching in Ontario and at Mount Washington.

Since 1995, Corey has been working in the field of Physiotherapy.  Her experience working with a variety of population groups provides the POL family with valuable insight into growth and development, human performance, injury prevention and management.

Mike Richards

Former BC Team Mogul skier and head coach of the Fernie Freestyle Club for 7 seasons. Mike also works as Momentum Camps Air Qualifier and oversees all of their trampoline, waterramp and airbag training. He is a CFSA Level 4 Air coach, a comp devision mogul coach and a master learning facilitator.

A native of Campbell River, BC, Shawnee was appointed the assistant coach of Canada’s nation basketball team in 2013. She was the Head Coach of the University of Calgary basketball program for 16 years. In 2000 she completed her Masters Degree in Coaching Studies from the University of Victoria and in January 2003 she attained her National Coaching Certification Program Level Five. Harle is the only basketball coach in Canada, male or female, to attain her Level Five certification.

Harle has a wealth of international experience. She served as an Assistant Coach for the Canadian National Women’s Team that competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, the 1994 Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia and the World Championships in Sydney, Australia. Shawnee has also served as an international scout for Canada Basketball, travelling to Peru and the Dominican Republic to scout South American teams for the World Qualification Tournament.

Coach Harle was the Canada West Coach of the Year in 1996, 2000, 2008, and her teams have never had a losing season. With her extensive experience of developing competent leaders, Shawnee works as a personal development expert as well as a mental toughness coach with the Courage to Win.  She specializes in helping others develop mental toughness skills that will allow them to set and reach their goals.
